Born Marie Beatrice Stennes on a homestead near Methow, Washington to Norwegian immigrant pioneers in the Methow Valley, Brittanus Gustav Stennes and Berta Sophia Nordang, Marie graced this world for 95 years, six months and 15 days with a quiet reserve and dignity that masked an admirable uncomplaining inner strength that made her a rock of stability to her family. Her passing leaves a void that words cannot adequately describe.
The middle child of seven, Marie grew up loved and happy. She often said " we were poor by most definitions but we didn't know it." After graduating from high school she found work as a housekeeper/nanny to earn money to attend business college in Spokane and then worked in Spokane until 1938 when she was able to transfer to Seattle to be closer to the love of her life. In May 1939, Marie was married to George K. Taylor on Vashon Island and they were inseparable and unfailing in devotion to family for the next 69 years until his death in 2008.
Pre-deceased by her parents and three siblings, Kermit, Idun and Inga, Marie is survived by her three sons, Paul (Carole) of Seattle, George (Josie) of Bothell and Richard (Lois) of Liberty Lake, 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sisters Selma Steiner of Seattle and Esther (Ross) Jones of Cashmere, WA, brother Bert Stennes of Pateros, WA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Five years to the day after she lost the love of her life, Marie was called home to join him in eternal peace.
The family wishes to express deep appreciation to the assisted living staff at Foundation House Northgate, Providence Hospice Seattle, Providence Hospice Snohomish County for their support, and especially the incredible staff at Homecomings Adult Family Home in Lynnwood, WA for the intensely loving and compassionate care provided to Marie in the last three and a half months of her life.
Family suggests remembrances in lieu of flowers directed to a charity of your choice.
