She was born in Auburn WA. to Tomizo and Misao Takenaga on June 30, 1932. The third of four children, she grew up with two brothers, Richard (Toshi) and Owen (Mabo) and a sister Emi (Muramoto). World War II forced her family to relocate to Minidoka Concentration Camp along with other Japanese families for four years. After the war, her family moved to Seattle, WA where she later graduated from Garfield High School. She married Paul Y. Kogita in February of 1957. Together they raised three children, Kurt, Greg and Tracy. Taka worked as an executive administrator for NOAA in Seattle Washington for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed bowling, pickleball, tennis, volleyball, knitting, reading, and spending time with her family. She also loved rooting for PNW sports teams and avidly watched basketball, volleyball, and tennis. She was also a dedicated member of the Seattle Buddhist Church where she made so many lifelong friends. Her zest for life, her energy and warm smile will be so deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years Paul, her siblings Toshi, Mabo & Emi, her three children Kurt (Mona), Greg (Mary), and Tracy (David Yamada) as well as her 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Seattle Buddhist Temple.
