Mark grew up in Tacoma, where he enjoyed SCUBA diving in Puget Sound to fill both his passion and aquarium. First as a Sea Scout and later an Eagle Scout, Mark loved being outdoors throughout his life. He was a proud graduate of the University of Washington and member of Sigma Alpha Mu. It was there that Mark met Terry Lerner, and they were married in 1979. Together, they raised their two children Stacie and Kevin.
In the 1970’s, Mark entered the workforce in the fish industry where he managed and brokered seafood sales. Mark eventually joined forces with his father and brother at M. Brashem Inc, further developing a successful steel and scrap metal import/export business. This work provided him the opportunity to travel the world and explore different cultures and cuisines.
While his priorities were always family and his business, he made time for many hobbies. He was an avid fisherman and an enthusiastic boater. As an intrepid adventurer, he supported the American Lung Association through cycling and climbs up Mt. Rainier.
Mark is survived by his father Martin Brashem, wife Terry Lerner Brashem, siblings Carrie Stein (Dick), Linda Jacobs (Jeff), Dena Fantle (Steve), Marvin Brashem (Lisa). Mark is also survived by his children Stacie Brashem and Kevin Brashem (Annie) and grandchildren Leo and Maya Brashem.
A private service was held.
Donations can be made in his honor to Kline Galland, American Lung Association, University of Washington Memory Hub, and Temple De Hirsch Sinai.
