We met Michael in October last year when my husband, Nils, became his room-mate.  Mike was very friendly and caring.  He watched out for Nils and was a good friend to him and to us.  Nils passed away Feb. 22.  I'm grateful to Mike and Susan for making Nils' life more bearable.  Mike was a good guy.

Sympathy and understanding during your time of loss.

As a former co-worker of Mike's at Qwest, I had the privilege and pleasure of spending time with him on a daily basis for nearly 8 years. During that time, we spent time teasing each other mercilessly, playing practical jokes on each other and other unsuspecting and unwilling victims, discussing politics and world events, and swapping stories about our families and loved ones. It's a wonder that we ever managed to complete the tasks required in our jobs! Yet, the experience of working with Mike was full of laughter and amusement, rich with stories, anecdotes, and opinions and, like a fine meal, was very satisfying, indeed. He was plain spoken fellow whose existence was firmly grounded in family life. He spoke adoringly of his wife, son, and most especially of his grandchildren. He never let an opportunity slip by to show me the latest photo of his granddaugther, and to tell me a story of the latest "cute" utterance or antic he witnessed by his beloved MacKenzie.When Mike had retired from Qwest, his second grandchild had just been born, but I am sure that he would have spoken no less glowingly of him. To the end of my days,  I shall always remember our daily lunches in the cafeteria and our talks about sports and politics. I am forever indebted to God for allowing me the opportunity of knowing Mike, and of spending time with such a wonderful man who possessed such a vibrant and dynamic spirit. 
May you rest in peace, my good friend!

It will be the little things
that you will remember
the quiet moments, the smiles,
the laughter.
And although it may
seem hard right now,
it will be the memory
of these little things
that help to push away the pain
and bring the smiles back again.

Mike and I were classmates in training back when Qwest was USWest.  It was May 1991, and though I think neither of us was sure about this job we had gotten ourselves into, Mike was always so high-spirited and positive, willing to give it his all, and he maintained a grateful heart. 
Through the years, even as his physical condition changed, his high spirits, compassion and sense of humor  never changed, or if they did, it is that they became even stronger in his adversity.
I know his inner strength came not only from his character, but also from you, his faithful family, for whom he always expressed much gratitude and great love  -- you were the apple of his eye.

His physical presence will be deeply missed, but I believe his loving presence will be with you always.
