Norma L. Grefsrud was born to Martin and Marit Flotlin on November 4, 1925 in Lewistown, Montana. She was the youngest of 7 siblings and has fond memories of growing up in a small town despite the Great Depression and World War II.
After high school Norma moved to Seattle and was employed by Seattle First National Bank where she met and became good friends and roommate to Pearl Grefsrud (Riddle). At Pearl's wedding in 1947 she was introduced to Pearl's brother, Glenn, who became her lifelong partner and husband. They married in 1948. Through the years they built and lived in homes in Kenmore, Kirkland and Bothell, WA.
She was very active in Sunday school, choir and Diakonia as members of Hope Lutheran, Northlake Lutheran and Holy Spirit Lutheran Churches. Sunday afternoons were often spent with her family on “Sunday drives” to the country or popping in on friends or relatives for a visit. Some of her favorite times were spent at Kayak Point picnicking and crabbing with family. Vacations back to Montana were treasured. Norma and Glenn’s wanderlust continued through their married life as they traveled to Europe and visited family in Norway. In the 70’s they bought a motorhome in which they enjoyed many trips near and far with their family. They especially enjoyed their annual trips to Palm Springs to play golf, bike, play shuffleboard and make root beer floats for their friends at the “Happy Traveler” RV resort.
Norma was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and loved the pre- Christmas lefse/ krumkake baking gatherings, a tradition that continues today with her kids and grandkids. She was a gracious host, a great cook and baked a mean blueberry pie. She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the local garden club as well as an avid reader and prided herself on staying current. One of her biggest roles in life was that of a caregiver for her mother, sister and husband.
Together they raised their 4 children and although preceded in death by Glenn, she is survived by her children: Brian Grefsrud (Cathy) Kenmore, WA, Barbara Watkins (Mike) Kirkland, WA, Lee Grefsrud (Zina) Bothell, WA, and Martin Grefsrud (Judy) Monroe, WA, by grandchildren: Ben Grefsrud, Christy Andrist (Geoff), Aaron Grefsrud (Jessi), Curt Haberlach (Lisa), Rob Grefsrud (Rowan), Camia Brock (Marshall), Taylor Grefsrud, Brianne Dendy (Alex), Allison Grefsrud, step grandchildren David Standridge (Lisa) and Samara Kraft and numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers remembrances can be made to Holy Spirit Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
