Norma Ruth Russell was born on January 25, 1935, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was the eldest of two children born to Mildred Colbert, and lovingly raised by John Colbert, who became a devoted father figure to her.
In 1944, the family moved to Seattle, Washington, where Norma attended Franklin High School, graduating with the Class of 1952. One of the highlights of her youth was being presented at the Debutante Ball, a moment she cherished dearly.
Early in her adulthood, Norma joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church, where she served faithfully in many capacities. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life and guided her in all she did.
Norma devoted much of her time to caring for others. She lovingly operated a daycare, nurturing countless children, and opened her heart and home to two foster children for many years.
A devoted mother, Norma was blessed with six children, whose births were among the greatest joys and accomplishments of her life. Family was the center of her world—she loved hosting Thanksgiving dinners, family cookouts, and celebrations, creating lasting memories for all who gathered in her home.
Norma leaves to cherish her memory of her six loving children: Pamela Wilson, John Baker, Rhonda Armstrong, Dale Baker, Rodney Baker, and James Hunter; her sister Shirley Mae Harper; her nieces Leslie Miles and Priscilla Harper; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Norma’s life reflected love, faith, and service. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit and the lessons she shared will live on forever in the hearts of those she touched.
Norma passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025.
