Oscar Charles was born May 21, 1957 and his life was taken on May 2, 2012. But through his passing he was able to give life to others through Organ Donations. Oscar was the youngest brother of six siblings. He was a father of two, Chante and Oscar, Jr., and had four grandchildren. Oscar always expressed his love for them and longed to see them, but never got the opportunity. Both he and Connie were very young parents. They were unable to mend their relationship after the loss of their newborn son Oscar Jr. Our family lost touch with them after Connie moved away to Kansas.
Oscar was a big hearted, outgoing, talkative, giving and forgiving person. He was happy to stop and help strangers, friends or family. Many could count on him no matter what time, day or night. He was self-employed as a metal scrapper/hauler, he tried his best to keep his word if he promised to do a job at a certain time, but was often delayed by his generosity in helping someone he felt was in distress, or a senior person in need. Being close to seniors was something he experienced early as a child, (the mothers and grandmothers), women in the community would often talk to him, impart wisdom and knowledge and feed him. They loved to feed him and he loved to eat. He was quite a healthy child in his youth, which led to a secret nickname.
Oscar struggled to make sense of his life, and turn things around. He was often giving God praise for pulling him out of tuff situations, for miracles and for blessings. He was concerned about his family as well as himself; he would say give God a chance look what God has done for him. Oscar knew that being absent in the body, meant that he would be present with the Lord. He could quote scripture even if he didn’t know what book, chapter or verse. His body will rest where he once stood in chains at the home-going of another loved one, loss in a tragic situation. Although Oscar will be missed, we know that now he is free.
He leaves to mourn his daughter Chante, and son-in-law Jason Sr., and grandchildren -- Jason, Lyric, Justin, Lynzi ; his older brothers Vanzell Sr., Willie, and sister Francella; nieces and nephews, Rima, Shemaiah, Sarah; Kisha; Nikita, RJ, Marlon, Jeremiah, Joshua, Anthony, Gerald, Mikias; first cousins Tammy, Curtis, Carol. Charles also leaves behind his life-time partner, Laura Lee Dill, his true-love for the past 8 years. They shared many happy memories and loved the outdoors, movies and each other. During the course of their relationship they started several scrapping businesses. Laura affectionately called him "ButterCup" and has fond memories of him taking thier 3 cocker spaniels, Chloe, Bella and Kirby for long walks together. He was her lover, teacher, and friend, and she will cherish him for the rest of her life. He will be missed more with each passing day.
Our mother, dad and other siblings, and other close family preceded him in death.
