Paul Eric Neiman, M. D. Age 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 11 after a long illness. A graduate of Franklin High School and the University of Washington Medical School, Paul was a Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington and a founding member of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. At the Hutchinson Center, Paul was a member of the clinical team that developed the first bone marrow transplant protocols for the treatment of leukemia. He also served for many years as the Director of Basic Sciences, helping guide the growth of the institution into a world-class research center. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol, his brother Lewis, his sons Aaron (Nancy) of Port Jefferson, NY and David (Keiko) of Seattle and grandchildren Emma, Benjamin, Leah, Helen, and Henry. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Butterworth Funeral Home--Arthur A. Wright Chapel, 520 W. Raye Street. One of Paul’s passions was the recruitment and development of young faculty, for which he started the Neiman Family Fund. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be made to the Neiman Family Fund at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
