Richard (Dick) John Nerheim passed away on May 31, 2017 at the age of 79. Born July 26, 1937 to parents John and Evelyn Nerheim in Seattle Washington, he is survived by three daughters: Julie Stawski, Kristine Lyle, and Tina Peadro; four grandchildren: Franki Lynn Anderson, KC Scott, Sarah and Shane Stawski; as well as many beloved family and friends.
Richard graduated from Ballard High School where he ran track and remained close to many of his school classmates, some of whom dubbed him "The Viking of 12th Ave." Except for his time in the Marine Corps, he lived his entire life in Ballard. He actively served the community through groups such as SeaFair, school reunion committees, his church and as Blockwatch Captain for his neighborhood. He loved his community and was beloved by his neighbors.
Proud of his Norwegian heritage, Richard became a member of the Sons of Norway. In 2014, he took the trip of a lifetime and explored Norway by ship and train with a cousin to meet their Norwegian relatives, taking hundreds of pictures along the way.
His life will be celebrated at the Leif Erikson Hall on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend and share their fond stories for us all to enjoy. He will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony at Evergreen Washelli in the Evergreen Garden Mausoleum.
