Rivers Robertson, Jr., 83, of Seattle, Washington went to be with the Lord on February 9, 2020. Rivers was the only child born to Rivers Robertson Sr. and Maude Allen Robertson, on June 3, 1936 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Rivers graduated from Southern University Lab School in 1955 and went on to Southern University to pursue his college degree. He graduated from Southern in 1959 and enlisted in the US Army immediately after college, where he served four years in Fairbanks, Alaska. Rivers moved to Seattle, Washington in 1963, where he met his wife, and began his career with the Seattle Parks & Recreation Department. Rivers was like a father to many in the Central District and a mentor at Miller Community Center where he was the Recreation Center Supervisor. Rivers worked for Seattle Parks & Recreation for thirty years and retired in 1996. Rivers was a tall, gentle, man with an extremely calming demeanor. He was a man of integrity, respect, strength and unconditional love. So many around Seattle knew, loved, and respected him. His presence will be missed greatly.
Rivers married the love of his life, Folayan Yetunde Oni-Robertson in 1967. They had two sons Gavin Ray Robertson, Sr. and Ajene-Bomani Robertson, and raised them to be respectful, strong and hard-working men. Rivers was an avid sports enthusiast and had season tickets for the Seahawks. He supported his sons, and grand children in both their scholastic and athletic endeavors. He was a staple at almost every single one of their games and meets. He was also an amateur photographer and left behind a slew of photos for his family to remember all of the memories they created together.
Rivers is survived by his son Gavin Ray Robertson, Sr., his daughter-in-laws LaShanda Robertson and Shannon McClain Robertson, his grandchildren, Tatum, Niall, Lennox, Janea, Gavin Jr. and Rakayla. He was preceded in death by his dad, Rivers Robertson Sr., his mom, Maude Allen Robertson, his wife Folayan Yetunde Oni-Robertson (nee Barbara Davis), and his son Ajene-Bomani Robertson.
A Celebration of Life for Rivers Robertson, Jr. will be held at Evergreen Washelli, 11111 Aurora Avenue North, Seattle, WA 98133 on Friday, March 13 at 12:30pm. The burial and Repast will follow immediately after the service.
