Robert “Bob” Charles Bertucio of Normandy Park, Washington passed away on September 18th, 2019. He was born to Robert and Marilyn Bertucio (Matson) on December 17th, 1948 in Springfield, Massachusetts.
As a young man, Bob earned his pilot’s license and had many adventures flying a Cessna with his father. His love for aviation led him to pursue a degree in aeronautical engineering at Georgia Tech and finish his degree at Syracuse University. He went on to complete a Masters and was ABD (all but dissertation) in his PhD program in nuclear engineering at Carnegie-Mellon University. He then began his career as a nuclear utility risk-assessment engineer in Pittsburgh.
After vowing to leave Pittsburgh by his 30th birthday, Bob moved to Seattle at the age of 29 and 11 months. It proved to be a great decision, as he met his wife of 37 years, Barbara “Barb” Bertucio (Allegri) at the Washington Ski Touring Club. They married on June 19th, 1982 and welcomed son Brett in 1986 and daughter Anne in 1988.
Bob enjoyed a long career as a consultant in the nuclear utility industry. He loved spending time with his friends in the office and colleagues around the country. His work made him a frequent traveler (and thief of airline silverware), but he never failed to call Barb and his kids every night away. In retirement, Bob enjoyed his involvement with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and, ever the engineer, tinkering with bicycles for his family and neighbors (and sometimes repairing them).
A true character, Bob will be remembered for his sense of humor, his “calling-it-as-it-is” approach to life, and his quiet care for his community. Whether it was a witty remark, a Thanksgiving Turkey when in need, a sports coach, or math help, he left everyone he encountered with “a Bob story.”
Bob was only ever a phone call away for whatever was needed -- a midnight pick up from the airport, rescuing bike riders from a downpour, or delivering a forgotten lunch. His presence will be deeply missed.
Bob was preceded in death by his father Robert, his mother Marilyn, and his brothers Bradford and William. He is survived by his wife Barbara, children Brett and Anne, and sisters Beryl, Mary, and Barbara.
