8/13/1920 - 11/24/2009
Bob, known to some as Mac, passed away peacefully at home on November 24th after an extended illness.
Bob was the only child of Harold and Etta (Rowe) McEwen. As a young boy they lived in Pacific Beach and Aberdeen where Bob's dad was a railroad engineer. In the 1930's they moved to Seattle where Bob attended Lincoln High School.
Soon after high school he enlisted in the Marines. Bob was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor and went on to fight in the Pacific campaign during WWII. He was injured in the war and after recovery met and married Betty Leader. At the time of her death they had been married nearly 50 years. They settled in Seattle where Bob became an electrical engineer for Pacific NW Bell.
In the late 1940's Bob and his father built a cabin at Tulalip Bay, near Marysville, where the family enjoyed many wonderful summers together. Later Bob, Betty and kids had much fun camping in their travel trailer along with Betty's sister, Virginia Olsen, husband Larry Olsen, and their children. Sadly, Virginia and Larry also passed away, in a car accident, just a few weeks ago. Upon retirement Betty & Bob enjoyed traveling with family and friends.
Bob is survived by his children, MaryAnne (Tom) Williams, Kathleen (John) Neal and Karen Neckita. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Caitlin Williams, Patti Howley, Christopher (Angela) Neal, Scott Neal, Brian (Nicole) Neckita, Kimberly (Will) Chabot as well as 9 great grandchildren and a niece and nephew.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the loving care provided by Bob's Group Health Hospice team and his caregivers from With a Little Help. They came into our lives when we needed them most. We will miss him dearly and remember him always.
