Ross Hunter Chambers, born in NYC on 11/03/41 to George A. and Frances (Boynton) Chambers, passed away 5/25/22. Raised in Summit NJ, he graduated from Summit HighSchool and received a BA from Nichols College in Dudley, MA. After his active duty in the National Guard, he joined ABEX Corporation in NYC, then to Chicago where he met the love of his life, Gloria. After researching the best cities for quality of life, in 1970, they chose Seattle. He became a commercial real estate broker and through his work became involved in the President’s Club of the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, producing memberships and meeting people who would become life-long friends. Through this work, Gloria and Ross were able to travel to exciting places such as Thailand, Australia, China, Nepal and many more.
A small stitched image stating “Don’t worry, don’t hurry, and don’t forget to smell the flowers” sitting on the counter in his bathroom expressed much of Ross’s world view. He loved Seattle—the trees, the mountains, the water, the food, the beer, the sports and the access to nature. He climbed Mt Rainier in 1976. He was a devoted Husky and Sounder fan. Evidence of his love for the Northwest was not only in his desire to raise his family here, but also in what he gave back—fundraising for the burn unit at Harborview Medical Center and the University of Washington for Virtual Reality therapy for pain relief of burn victims as well as serving on the board of Puget SoundKeeper Alliance in the fight to keep the life-giving waterways healthy and clean.
Ross loved art and painted abstract pieces – his signature technique “to never use a brush.” One piece is on display at Hall Health at UW. He was devoted to his family and friends. Sugie, our sweet dog was never replaced with another, as he stated “you can’t mess with perfection”. Ross is survived by his wife Gloria (Trebets), daughters, Lori Chambers and Kristin Chambers (Balin), granddaughter Evelyn, sister Sally Paland (William), and three dear nephews and their families.
