Sally R Smith, 79, of Renton, Washington peacefully passed away at her home on Monday, November 1, 2021. She was born on November 13, 1941, in Laverne, Alabama to Mamie and Gilbert. At a young age, they moved from the south to the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she became the ultimate Steeler’s fan for life! She adored and revered her grandparents, Arthur (Big Daddy) and Lucille (Big Mama), her Uncle Hubert, Aunt Rosie and Aunt Vonceil. All of whom have proceeded her in death. Sally was an only child though the eldest of 22 grandchildren in which many of her cousins and her developed relationships as if they were all siblings!
As teenager, her mother and stepfather Bill Hawkins relocated to Seattle, in which she attended Garfield High School. It was in Seattle where she met her friend, companion, and husband, of over 60 years, Harris R (Smitty) Smith. They resided in Bothell, Washington for over 40 years, where they raised their five children. Sally was a supportive and loving wife and mother, making family her top priority. She served on the Parent Teachers Association (PTA), Room Mother, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Chauffer for her children’s various extra-curricular activities, in which she was the loudest Cheerleader and their biggest fan! Her working career begin at the Kenmore Sewing store, then she worked for Gibson Greeting Cards, Allstate Insurance and Washington Mutual Bank (WaMu). After she retired, she volunteered at the Northshore Senior Citizen Center. She moved to Hoodsport, WA where her and Smitty resided full time for over 10 years, fulfilling one of their retirement dreams.
Possessing a flamboyant personality, she never shied away from telling the truth. This made her well respected by many and feared by some, she was always encouraging everyone she met to be their true authentic self! Having a zest for life she enjoyed traveling with family, though most of all she truly enjoyed her outings and travel with her Girlfriends, cousins, and Aunt Vonceil. She also enjoyed high risk activities such as skydiving, parasailing, belly dancing, jazzercise, motorcycle riding, playing women’s softball and fastpitch as well as women’s tackle football.
