Sarah Jackson

Sarah Billups was born in Belzoni, Mississippi to Bob Billups and Rilda Milton. Sarah was affectionately called, ?MoDea? short for Mother Dear by her beloved daughter Martha Dunford. Also surviving are Martha?s children: Walter Dunford, Jr., Coral Gilmore, Timothy Dunford and Luther Dunford. Great grandchildren include: Ephraim Dunford, Demicka Gilmore-Nuckols, Keyetta Gilmore, and Vernisha Dunford. Great-great grandchildren include: Demetrius Gilmore, TavLeen Gordon and Hurayah Minor. She will also be missed by her nieces Joyce Jones and Diane Williams, their families and a host of other family and friends.

Sarah was a member of White Star Baptist Church, where she met, then married Major Thorton in 1931. He tragically passed away later that year. She was a hard worker and loving person who helped those in need. In 1939 Sarah married William Jackson. They remained together for nearly 45 years until his death in 1982. After his passing, Sarah moved to Seattle to be close to her daughter and sister Mary Sanders-Williams. In the early ?80?s she began to visit the Paradise Baptist Church. She loved it so much she became a member.

Sarah put up a good fight to stay with her family and church, as long as her body would allow, but the Lord wanted her home, and she answered His call. Sarah was a blessing to all of us and she will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Sarah?s homegoing will begin 11:00am, Saturday, September 6, 2003 at Paradise Baptist Church 4353 South Henderson Street, Seattle, WA 98118. For directions call: 206-723-0888. Viewing will be held at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home 11111 Aurora Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98133 on Friday 1-8pm and on Saturday 10am until service begins at the church.
