Sean Philip Mach, age 38, lost his life to a glioblastoma on Monday, May 28th in his home in Bothell, WA. He spent his last hours surrounded by love and in the company of friends, family, and his two little ones.
Sean was born on August 20, 1979 to Jean Pierre Marcel Mach and Cheryl Sue Mach (Elms) in Kirkland, WA. He was the first of two children. He and his sister, Christina Mach, grew up having many adventures with cousins and friends - crabbing at Guemes Island, swimming in his Grandpa Jack's pool, and playing board games. In high school, Sean ran track, played soccer, and was photo editor of the school newspaper where he was known for his photoshopping shenanigans.
Sean received a BS and Masters in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Washington. While there, he ate a lot of teriyaki and chicken tikka masala and developed a hatred for the Oregon Ducks. Around this time, he also met a group of lifelong friends. They played trivia every Tuesday, went on multiple vacations together, and tolerated/provoked Sean's insistence that he hold the high score for every Mario Kart track.
After graduation, Sean spent time in San Diego, LA, Pasadena, and Seattle working as an aerospace engineer. The highlights of his work career include working on the Mars Curiosity Rover, the James Webb Space Telescope, and "pennying" Mike Yang's office at ATA.
For the last couple of years, Sean worked at MSC Software as the Technical Account Manager for Boeing.
Sean met his wife Jessica Mach (Dolan) while playing soccer and kickball in Pasadena. Before falling in love and getting married, Sean and Jessica were writing partners. They wrote two top ten sci-fi television pilots along with a handful of spec scripts. Sean said his favorite time in life was when he and Jessica were writing together.
On July 27, 2013, Sean and Jessica were married in West Glacier, Montana. Around this time, they moved to Seattle, WA to be closer to Sean's family. Sean and Jessica were blessed with two children, Wyatt and Zoey. Sean loved putting on puppet shows for the kids and making up new lyrics to all the toddler songs. He had a knack for doing voices, and his Kermit imitation was priceless.
Sean has always been known for his sense of humor, his genuineness, and his hatred of potatoes (skinny fries excluded). He made a handful of close friends everywhere he went, and he will be greatly missed.
Sean is survived by his wife Jessica Elizabeth Mach (Dolan), his son Wyatt Jackson Mach (3), his daughter Zoey Helen Mach (1), his father Jean Pierre Marcel Mach, his mother Cheryl Sue Mach (Elms), his sister Christina Michelle Mach, his brother-in-law Colin Joseph Troy, his nephew Hugo Eamon Troy, his grandmother Annie Lois Lalonde (Smith), his grandmother Colette Bert-Renee Mach (Danbon), his grandmother Alma Marie Elms (Clark), and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Olin Jackson Elms and his grandfather Hugo Mach.
A funeral followed by a celebration of life will be held on June 8, 2018 at 4:00pm at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home in Seattle WA (11111 Aurora Avenue North, Seattle, WA, 98133). In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to brain cancer research http://engage.fredhutch.org/goto/SeanMach or you can contact Jessica to contribute to college savings accounts for Wyatt and Zoey.
