I thought of Dr. Stamm today as I remember my son who was a patient of his, beginning 1979.  He proved to be our lifeline and hope in a very frightening time and for the years ahead.  My son spent many days at COH and summers at camp which always included a picture with his favorite Dr.  My fondest laugh was that one appointment I told Dr. Stamm that I had told my son that Dr.Stamm needed him to eat his green vegetables.  After my son was out of earshot he said with that smile, " I hate green vegetables."   God Bless Him always for the thousands of children, parents, family members, nurses, Doctors and others that his passion infected and that continues as his legacy in the decades to come.  Deeply Grateful for his life.

I was so blessed to have been mentored as a parent of very sick children, by Dr Stamm, who gave me the confidence to trust my instincts regarding my parenting observations and judgements. He said to me when I brought my very sick daughter to him that, I was the one who knew my daughter best and my knowledge was going to help them (the Doctors) get her well.  That little bit of encouragement sent me on a path of advocating for my children and disabled family members that has been truly  life changing in positive ways that  I could only have dreamed of.  I don't know if I can say enough of how vital Dr. Stamm's gift of encouragement has been to me a Mother, of no special talents, in stomping down the weeds getting in the way of my children's potential and helping them to move forward in their gifts.  I will always be so thankful for His kindnesses and the hope that always followed him in the room. My prayer now is, who will step up and walk the path he was faithful to ? 



My son was born in 1989 with complex heart condition.  They could not fully comprehend the extent until he was in surgery.  Dr. Stamm came out to tell us how extremely serious it was and what they were going to try to do during the surgery.  I see his face, the grave concern, the openly sad eyes as he tried to prepare us for this unknown and risky situation.  That compassion was a hallmark of his greatness.
My son survived that surgery and Dr. Stamm came into the recovery room with the biggest stuffed panda and plopped it on the bed next to my son, dwarfing my baby.  He was elated at Gabriel’s progress.  When Gabe was in the hospital I could sit outside my son’s room early 5-6 and wait for Dr. Stamm to come and tell me what I should know.  Part of the family.  His love shone.  Gabe would go on to attend camp and Dr. Stamm’s grandson was Gabe’s counselor.  Gabe passed away last year and now they are together again.

I had open heart surgery.
 When I was only 5 years old . 
 I had a surgery called transposition of the great arteries.  Dr.Stamm would sit at my bedside all night with my mom . I asked Dr.Stamm  if I could have some ice cream when I get out of surgery he said you can have all the ice cream I wanted.  Dr.Stamm called me a  miracle child because Dr Stamm did not know if I would  survive the surgery.  
If it was not for God and Dr. Stamm I would not be alive today . 


After my recovery from my surgery when I got a lot older I want to C.O.H. Camp . 
It’s a great Camp I brought home some fish every year .
That I went to camp . 
I liked fishing a lot there at the C.O.H.
At Camp I  remember using marshmallows to catch fish little tiny marshmallows . 



As a UW med student in the 70’s rotating on pediatric cardiology at COH Dr Stamm was a great inspiration as a wise and kind clinician.  I remember well his sense of humor and he loved a good prank. Once he replaced an intern’s stethoscope tubing with black licorice and when the intern couldn’t hear the heart murmur he grabbed the stethoscope and began eating it!  A great human being and an inspirational doctor!

I was privileged to  know  Dr.Stamm as a colleague at Seattle Children's.  He always had a kind word for me and always asked for the latest pictures of my kids. He genuinely cared and was interested in people. His smile will be missed.

There is no doubt in my mind that my 2 oldest children are alive today because of Dr Stamm.
Born with a rare genetic disorder,  that involved a congenital heart defect,  Dr Stamm looked beyond his specialty and at the entire body.  When the kids went in for clinic days,  they saw genetics,  rehab,  orthopedics,  respiratory,  and of course cardiac... Dr Stamm and Marlene would not only care for their hearts,  but advised us on other recommendations that were made.  Some of which may have caused more problems than they resolved,  and when old enough their opportunity to go to camp like "normal" kids was an incredible experience.  So much so that as they grew , they transitioned from campers to volunteer councillors.  Every family who faced the terror that came with a child suffering from heart problems found not only medical care for the child but some peace of mind and confidence for parents.  
This was not only a great doctor and teacher,  but a GREAT man 

I had the privilege of working with Dr. Stamm during my medical training in the early 70's and loved helping in his camp during the summers.  He touched and inspired all who knew him and was the epitome of the clinician I aspired to be.
