Susan Hinckel Green

Susan H. Green passed away peacefully in Seattle, on Sunday, January 28, 2018. Susan was born in Seattle and lived in Winthrop on Wolf Creek Road for the last 28 years with her husband, Albert A. Green Jr., who passed away in 2016. Susan had four children (Susan, Lena, Albert and Richard), four grandchildren (Jared, Kyle, Samuel and Ayla) and her black lab Annie, who loved her and will miss her very much.

Susan graduated from Garfield High School at 16 years old and attended the University of Washington, where she earned her bachelor's degree in political science and journalism. She worked at Paradise Inn on Mt. Rainier while in college and later at the Bon Marche downtown. Susan loved to ski, play tennis, and travel--gathering many amazing stories along the way. One cross-country road trip with her mother ended with their seeing "Streetcar Named Desire" on Broadway starring Marlon Brando. She toured the Pacific Rim by freighter and by train on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Susan and her husband, Albert, took a trip to Fiji and Australia; she liked Australia so much, she went back to see more of the country.

As a descendent of Washington Territory pioneers, Susan had an interest in Northwest history. Susan's great great grandfather was William Henry Blake, who was the first lighthouse keeper at the New Dungeness Lighthouse, W.T., in 1857. She was a member of the New Dungeness Light Station Association, The National Society of Colonial Dames of America, Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington and the Sunset Club. She served on the Seattle School Council for four years and felt honored to be invited by Gov. Dan Evans to participate in a State advisory board.

Services will be held February 24, at noon, at the Methow Valley United Methodist Church.
