My deepest sympathy, love and prayers to Tom's family. 
I met Tom many years ago the U-Frame Shop at Jefferson Square. Regularly I would stop to visit and bring homemade cookies. 
When he wasn't working on a project he would be in his chair reading the paper.  We shared stories of our cancer journey, his family and my ministries with the homeless and  being a teacher.
 He often talked about his family. He was proud of all of you. I came to know your education and work through your dad. 
 Tom was generous with the extra materials (extra heavy cardstock) from different projects. I took them for making homemade cards and posters for the children at school. 
I was sorry when he retired and closed his business. Yet, I was happy that he could get some rest. He was tired. I called him a couple of times to stay connected. 
I missed our visits.

I first met Tom Sweeney at the U-Frame-It store in Ballard in the early 1980s.  From that day forward, he framed anything and everything for me.  Some of my requests created a challenge such as the menu from the Algonquin Bar, my mother’s dance cards from college, a Girl Scout sewing badge.  He taught me to assemble wood and metal frames, but I never chose the mat or the frame because his taste was always spot on. We shared a love of crossword puzzles, and he often gave me hints when I was stuck.  Driving by the California location in the car or on the bus, I would often see him working that day’s puzzle sitting in a chair by the window.  It never failed to make me smile. His family’s statement on the West Seattle Blog about his family rings true.  As a long term customer, I often inquired about his daughters, and he always spoke of them with pride.  We have all lost an artist and a gentleman.  It makes me incredibly sad.
