Vita Alexander Sheehy passed away peacefully at home on May 4th, 2025 surrounded by family and her beloved dog. Her valiant 13-month fight against advanced pancreatic cancer was an inspiration to all. Vita was born on December 2nd, 1964 in Falls Church, Virginia to Vita Buhl Alexander and Albert David Alexander. Her family lived in Falls Church until 1980 when they moved to Boca Raton, Florida. She graduated from Boca Raton Academy in 1983 and The University of Florida in 1990 with a Bachelor's degree in Design from the College of Architecture.
After graduating from college, she moved to Seattle, Washington where she started to work for Eagle Hardware. She began to work her way into the corporate world holding various C-level positions as a trusted partner and advisor at Key Bank, Time Inc, and Groupon. Amazon is where she cut her teeth in the Tech sector, honed her skills and strengths leading teams in corporate tech environments, bringing it full circle as Sr. Director and Chief of Staff to EVP OCI at Oracle. She touched many lives and was a mentor to countless colleagues through her career.
In 1997 she married her beloved husband Edward Joseph (EJ) Sheehy and they made Seattle their home until her death. He was by her side caring for her every moment as she fought her cancer. Sadly, On May 14, 2025, EJ passed away suddenly just 10 days after Vita. They are now together again in spirit.
Vita loved traveling the world and meeting extraordinary people from all walks of life. She was exceptionally fond of the people and cultures of India and Nepal. She made friends everywhere she traveled. She deeply loved all her friends and created lifelong connections and friendships. She was raised as a Unitarian Universalist, but felt more aligned with the Buddhist faith. She often described herself as a Humanist, who believed in the untapped potential of every single person. She felt her purpose was to help her fellow man and woman reach their highest potential and find their true north.
Vita fell deeply in love with the land and energy of the Southwest after she and EJ purchased a second home in Nevada in early 2019. It was the high desert where she discovered her own true north. The Southwest felt like a homecoming for her, making her feel whole in body and spirit. Like many of her endeavors, she became passionately dedicated to the protection of the endangered desert tortoise that resided on her property.
Vita was a determined and driven leader in the Technology sector, demanding that as a woman, she had every right to hold a seat at the table. Yet, she was also a free spirit who celebrated individual expression and authenticity plus a good measure of spice. She was devoted to those she loved, knowing only the best for them. She unapologetically lived life boldly, fought for what she believed in, yet always committed to the beauty and compassion of living in kindness. She fought bravely until the end and lived life fully up until her very last breath. No regrets.
Vita is survived by her sister, Betty Alexander Emery, brother-in-law Egor Koch Emery, niece Elisabeth Hope Emery, nephew Alexander Gaines Emery, half-sister Charlene Alexander, Aunt Alice Buhl, and sister-in laws Erin Sheehy and Tara Tisopulos. Vita is also survived by numerous cousins in Seattle, Northern Virginia, Connecticut, and California.
