Born on January 2, 1942, in Beloit, Wisconsin, Walt was the second of thirteen children born to Walter Morris Abbott and Betty Jane (Hutchison) Abbott. Affectionately known as "Sonny" by his family, Walt developed a deep curiosity about the world through books, which led him to join the U.S. Navy in 1959 at age 17.
Walt proudly served his country with honors as a Navy Corpsman 2nd Class, working closely with the Marine Corps and the Air Force. Walt often shared stories of his first tour in Corpus Christi, TX and when he was stationed in Guam. He joined the Marines in 1965 and was on the USS Albany, serving in Vietnam from 1966-1967.
After the military, Walt worked as a mason plasterer in Wisconsin and Florida. In the 1970s, Walt relocated to Seattle, Washington, where he established himself as a talented mason plasterer. His craftsmanship and reputation brought him work across the Puget Sound region and as far as Alaska.
Walt enjoyed rebuilding computers, spending time with his grandchildren, and listening to music. He was always ready to lend a hand with house repairs, generously offering his skills to family and friends.
