William Douglas Granstrom, Sr., died on July 7, 2014 at his home in north Seattle where he lived with his wife Catherine for 66 years. He was born in Burlington, Wa. on August 16, 1927 to Catherine M and Irvin E Granstrom. He grew up in Seattle and attended McGilvra Elementary and later attended Broadway High School. He joined the Navy after graduating and spent his time in the military on ships in the South Pacific and Hawaii. He really liked Hawaii and went back as ofter as he could. He got his pilots license after getting out of the service and flew float planes out of Kenmore. In his younger years he worked in the building trade. Later he worked and retired from the Post Office.
Before Bill retired he bought an old farm on the Sauk River. He stayed busy putting in windows, doors and a new roof and cleaning up the orchard. The family had great summers up there and we always regretted going back to town.
Bill was a devoted family man. He raised six sons and a daughter; Dan, Mike(Val deceased), Chris (Patty), Irvin (Kathy deceased), Brian (Cheiko), Cathy and William, Jr. When his two nieces were in grade school and needed a home, they came and lived with us until they were out of high school. He didn't want them living with anyone outside the family. Bill is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He will be missed by all of us. He was preceded in death by his parents Irvin E (1946) Catherine M (1975) and his sister Dorothy (1986).
