George Gerdes Jr.

George Gerdes Jr. was a very loving husband, father and Opa. He went to be with the Lord on October 15th, 2015 at the age of 91.

He was born on January 5th, 1924 in San Antonio, Texas to George Gerdes Sr. and Louise Schmoekel Gerdes. George is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 69 years Laura Mae Shulze Gerdes, and his one brother Malcom Gerdes.

He is survived by his children; Michael Gerdes and his wife Hattie; Deborah Gerdes Almquist and her husband Scott; brother-in-law Arnold Schulze and wife Verlyn, and sister-in-law Evelyn Schulze Norman and husband Bert. George had three grandchildren; Jon Gerdes of Berlin, Germany; Kristin Almquist Griffin and husband Brian and Andrew Almquist. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

George was a WWII veteran and a member of the American Legion #245 and VFW Post 7110 – District 5. He worked at Hexel for almost 30 years where he retired from. George was a member of Emanuel’s Lutheran Church – 206 N. Travis St. in Seguin, where memorials can be made to.

A visitation will be held at Goetz Funeral Home on Monday, October 19th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 20th at 10:00 am at Emanuel’s Lutheran Church, 206 N. Travis Street in Seguin, officiated by Pastor Paul Zwarich. Interment will immediately follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park, 2951 Hwy 46 S. in New Braunfels, TX.
