She considered her role of loving wife, mother and homemaker her first love. Her life was focused on her family, as she often put their needs above her own. When her children were growing up, she served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, a Little League Baseball Mom, and a supporter of whatever sport her children were involved in. After her youngest child started grade school she began a 2nd career in the field of healthcare, working the night shift (so her younger children were never alone), as a Nurse’s Aide at Seguin Convalescent Home. She was wonderful in that position but felt that she could be of even more service to the residents by pursuing her Licensed Vocational Nurses certification. As a determined nontraditional (older) student, she spent countless hours studying and it was fruitful as she made the highest grade in her class on the state certification test. After receiving her license she returned to the night shift until her retirement many years later. Working in the healthcare field made her personally aware of healthy lifestyles and she was very interested in living in the healthiest way possible. She and several friends formed a local chapter of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). Upon reaching her goal weight and maintaining it for the required length of time, she then went on to begin a local chapter of KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly). She was one of the biggest supporters and encouragers of other members of the club in reaching and maintaining their goals. She and her husband, Edwin, traveled to many state and national conventions for both organizations during her time in the clubs. She was awarded a plaque at one of the national conventions for remaining a KOPS for 30 years.
She was a longtime member of the St. Ann’s Society at St. James Catholic Church in Seguin. She was also a faithful provider of cakes for the weekly Knights of Columbus bingo nights. Helping in any way possible was her biggest gift to her faith, community and city. She lived her life by “treating other as she wanted to be treated”.
One of her favorite sayings was, “Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without”. She lived by that phase her entire life. She never believed in “wasting” anything.
Family will receive visitors at a visitation held on Tuesday December 18th, 2012 from 5 to 7 pm at Goetz Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at St James Catholic Church at 8:30 am Wednesday the 19th with recitation of the Most Holy Rosary at 9:30. A Mass of a Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 am with entombment following at St. James Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.
