

BURCHARDT, Leroy J. 82, of Seminole, Florida, died Sunday September 6, 2015 at Suncoast Hospice Care Center in Pinellas Park, Florida. He was born June 2, 1933 in Grenville, South Dakota, the son of Leo and Clara (Lesnar) Burchardt. He was raised on a small farm near there and Waubay, South Dakota. Upon graduation from Waubay High School in 1952, he enlisted in the Air Force as the Military draft was in effect at that point in time. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1973 after 22 years of service in the Air Force and is a Korean War and Viet Nam War Veteran. He served in Japan, Korea, Spain, and Goose Bay Labrador, plus numerous states during his tour. His last assignment was at MacDill AFB in Tampa, Florida, where he served with the Air Defense Command and was an Electronics Maintenance Crew Chief with the Sea Launched Ballistic Missile Tracking System. He was President and Manager/Coach of the Boys Pony League baseball team at the South Palomino League in South Tampa for six years from 1973-1980. He also was a former Superintendent of Operations for the City of Tampa Parking Division and retired in 1996 after 20 years with the city. He was well known throughout the Parking Industry in the USA and Canada. He loved to golf and was an officer of the Largo Seniors Golf League for most of the years since joining the league in 1997.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 58 years, Juanita; their five children; a daughter, Teresa Taylor, Land “O” Lakes, Florida and four sons, Wesley and Warren, both of Lutz, Florida; Todd, Odessa, Florida; Tony, Gainesville, Georgia; and 14 grandchildren. One sister, MaryAnn Swanson from Watertown, South Dakota, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Clara and three sisters, Bernice, Adeline, and Clarice.
Visitation will begin at 10:00am on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the funeral home, where funeral services will follow at 11:00am. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Garden Sanctuary Cemetery.
