(September 27, 1924 - July 21, 2013)
Nils Lingvall of Sequim passed away on July 21, 2013, at the age of 88 from interstitial lung disease.
He was born in Jarpen, Sweden, to Henrik and Edith (Johansson) Lingvall.
After completing high school, Nils served as an officer in the Swedish army. He then chose to immigrate to the United States.
He first lived in Minnesota, where he met Maxine Pederson. The couple were married on August 26, 1950, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota.
Two years after their first son was born, Nils and Maxine followed the advice of childhood friends from Sweden, John and Mary Swedstedt, and moved West to find better employment opportunities on the Olympic Peninsula.
Nils brought his skill as a mechanic and truck driver — skills honed first in Sweden and then during his time in Thief River Falls — to the North Olympic Peninsula and later Gold Canyon, Arizona.
His wife, Maxine, passed away on May 28, 1984.
In his free time, Nils enjoyed cross-country skiing and lending a hand to friends and family with their projects.
Nils attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sequim and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Jarpen Ski Club.
Nils married JoVonne Blank in Sequim on May 18, 1985.
Nils leaves behind his loving wife of 28 years, JoVonne; his sons, Keith (Mollie) Lingvall and Mark (Amy) Lingvall, both of Port Angeles; stepson Rick Blank of Deception Pass, Washington; daughters Nancy (Ray) Silcox of Forks and Beth (Ed) Stark of Sequim; and stepdaughters Christy Stockman of Chandler, Arizona, and Cindy Reandeau of Sequim.
Besides his children, he also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Edith Lingvall.
A Rosary will be recited today, July 25, 2013, at 7 p.m. at Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel, 108 West Alder Street.
The next day, Friday, July 26, an 11 a.m. funeral service will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 East Maple Street in Sequim. The service will be officiated by Father John Pierre Kasonga. A reception will follow the service at St. Joseph.
Nils will be laid to rest at Sequim View Cemetery, 1505 Sequim-Dungeness Way.
Memorial contributions should be made to Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, 540 East Eighth Street, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
