

Mr. McKelvey was born in Cambria, Pennsylvania on November 28, 1927 and was the son of the late John and Trella East McKelvey. He was a U.S. Army-Air Corp Veteran serving during World War II. He was a member of Calabash Presbyterian Church where served as an Deacon and Elder at previous churches and sang in the choir. He served in his community as a volunteer dispatcher at Calabash Rescue Squad and called Bingo at the Calabash Fire Department. He was an avid bowler, NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching Pro Football and PGA Golf. He enjoyed visiting the Brunswick County Libraries and checking out paperbarks from two of his favorite authors, James Patterson and Louis L'Amour. He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAn W. McKelvey, a grandchild, Mark R. Haynie and a brother, Ralph McKelvey.
He is survived by three children, Deborah Haynie and husband Richard of Athens, Maine, William B. McKelvey of Washington, Pa. And Rebecca McKelvey of Calabash; two sisters, Shelby Miller of El Cjon, California and Phyllis Windham of Lynchburg,S.C.; eight grandchildren,seventeen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 27, 2025 at one o’clock in the afternoon at Calabash Covenant Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
