

Mr. Purvis was born May 10, 1933, in Moore County, North Carolina on May 10, 1933, son of the late Graham and Lillie Kidd Purvis. He grew up in High Falls, North Carolina and was a graduate of High Falls High School. Brewers Restaurant in Harpers Crossroads, High Falls Oil Company, and Mid State Furniture of High Falls were all founded by Jack and his partner. In the 1970s and 1980s, he also ran a several convenience stores in the area. He moved to Holden Beach and settled there in 1984. Dealing in real estate has always been his passion. Jack loved sports and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed traveling with family and friends, driving his Lincoln Town Car, and eating breakfast at McDonald's early in the morning. He will always be remembered for his keen intellect and giving nature. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Michael Purvis and younger siblings, Tom Purvis, Bud Purvis, and Maggie Mashburn.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 32 years, Raye Purvis of the home; daughter, Jackie Craven (Bill) of Ramseur; son, Kevin Purvis (Terri) of High Falls; daughter-in-law, Merle Purvis of Shallotte; step-daughters, Vickie Garris and Kristie Algeo; step-son, Buddy Price; seven grandchildren, Meredith Duell, Joshua Purvis, Rachel Stanley, Brad Craven, Michelle Kirchenbaum, Megan Purvis, and Graham Purvis; twelve great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at three o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Sharon Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from two o'clock until two forty-five in the afternoon at the church.
