She was the daughter of Harry N Hill, Sr. and Helen Wagoner Hill. She graduated from Turner Ashby High School Class of ’65. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, her time at the Career Academy led to working as a dental assistant with Dr. Dwight Shull in Bridgewater, VA. She was also the first secretary/bookkeeper for Beam Brothers Trucking.
Lana married Jacob William Hartman on May 18, 1968. They had 56 years of making a home and family, traveling, enjoying the beach, and being blessed!
Her greatest joy was welcoming daughter Mollie Ruth who has blessed us with her husband Andrew Hess and the two best grandchildren in the whole wide world. Ian Jacob Hess and Annabelle Juliet Hess – they all continue to amaze us with their achievements.
In addition to her husband, children, and grandchildren, Lana is survived by her sister Mary Helen “Clooney” Rodeffer and sisters-in-law Kerry Hill, Patricia Hill. Delores Wilfong, Alma Shoemaker, and Mary Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Roger W Hill and Harry N Hill Jr., and brother-in-law Kenny Rodeffer.
Lana leaves behind so many cherished family – aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and too many special friends to mention. She thanks everyone for the memories and loves all of the laughs that you shared with her.
Mill Creek Church of the Brethren was also a pivotal part in Lana’s life, building lasting friendships through worship and activities over the years.
Lana and her family want to say a huge thank you to all who have helped us on this journey of a fulfilled life, with special thanks to her caring hospice team and to all who sent uplifting cards and messages of support that she so enjoyed.
Lana wrote much of this obituary herself, as usual trying to make things as easy on everyone else as possible. She ended with, “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” While she would never acknowledge it, we were all the lucky ones to have her in our lives.
In lieu of flowers her hope was that everyone will go out and do a good deed for someone, and “Pay It Forward”. Lana was an avid reader and this was not only one of her favorite books, but how she lived her life – always being everyone’s cheerleader and going out of her way to support others.
A service will be held Monday, July 8th at 7:00pm at Mill Creek Church of the Brethren, 7600 Port Republic Rd, Port Republic, VA 24471.
