On Thursday, January 8, 2026 of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, formerly of Falls Church, VA, Bud passed from this life to his reward at Lower Cape Fear Hospice, with family at his side, after losing a yearlong battle with leukemia. Born in Marion, OH, in 1944 to the late Lawrence and Nellie Kline. Also preceded in death by his dear sisters, Joy (Ken) Dahill, and Mary (Richard) Siebert; grandson, Mattison McLaurin and Maripat's son Todd Foege.
Before arriving in Ocean Isle where he was drawn to the water and a slower pace of life, he spent the prior 46 years serving the Northern Virginia community as a Licensed Funeral Director. His dedication to honoring the deceased family’s wishes was remarkable and admired. He was the problem solver at the funeral home and always created lasting, positive memories for the families he served. At work and at home, Bud and his wife, Maripat, made a great team and loving partners in life.
Bud was active with St. James Catholic Church in Falls Church where he helped organize everything from bingo to Catholic Charities golf tournaments, and he was also an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus in Arlington, VA. He willingly helped others throughout his life.
He enjoyed fixing anything and everything and always had the right tool. Whether whitewater rafting on the Shenandoah, playing golf with friends, sitting quietly with Maripat, or playing with his grandchildren, he loved life and appreciated the fullness of the life that God gave him. Passing on his love of fishing, he taught his children and grandchildren the art of casting a line.
He chose the Prayer of St. Francis for his prayer card, as it reflected his way through life and its challenges. He was happiest when sharing stories and telling jokes with friends and family over a bushel of blue crabs at his finger tips, with his dog at his feet.
Bud leaves behind his devoted wife, Maripat, children Kimberley (Don) Carsto of Waxhaw, NC; Courtney Kline of Evergreen, CO; Sean (Heather) Kline of Leesburg, VA; Dama Foege of Naples, FL and Jody Foege of Naples, FL. He was called Grandpa by Corynn, Micah, Teagan, Zan, Bergen, Tenley, Taj, Griffin, and Berkeley. Also surviving are many cousins, nieces, nephews, and all of Maripat’s family.
Bud has been called a bright light, funny, gentle, kind-hearted, forgiving, and a fun-loving spirit who laughed through his own jokes.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 3pm with friends and family gathering at White Funeral and Cremation Service, 4690 East Coast Lane, Shallotte, North Carolina. Additionally a Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 2 at 1pm at St James Catholic Church, 905 Park Ave, Falls Church, VA with interment in St James Cemetery to follow.
