Myra Mercer Hines

Nanny was born May 16, 1942 in New Hanover County, daughter of the late Kenneth and Myra Price. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Bolivia for many years. She loved teaching Methodist Youth Group and serving in several capacities in the church. Nanny enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking her special spaghetti dish for everyone. In her eyes, her grandchildren could do no wrong and were the highlight of her life. No matter how old or how big they became, she always wanted them to sit in her lap for those special hugs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Eddie.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Robert "Bobby" Hines of the home; two daughters, Kimberly Mercer Newman (Joe Newman) of Winnabow and Marian Lou Mercer (Garey Tryon) of Bolivia; one sister, Annette Byrd and husband Larry of Burgaw; four grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at three o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Bethel United Methodist Church. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall.

The family would like to thank the staff of Brunswick Cove Nursing Center and Lower Cape Fear Hospice for the great care they provided during her declining health.
