Ron was born in Durham, NC on December 5th 1946. And was the son of the late Charlie “Duke” Thompson and survived by his mother Marie Thompson of Bolivia, NC. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Connie Thompson of Sunset Beach, NC., his brother Randy Thompson (Sharon) of Sunset Beach, NC, two daughters, Allison Davis (Rev. Derik) of Winton, NC, and Caroline D’Aurelio (Michael) of Apex, NC, one grandson Jacob Davis , two granddaughters, Cadence and Bree D’Aurelio, and many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A devoted husband and father, Ron retired as a Quality Control Engineer from AMP, Inc. in 2000. Ron and Connie relocated to Sunset Beach, NC to enjoy the beach and the many golf courses in the area.
An avid UNC Tarheels and Carolina Panthers fan, Ron enjoyed sports his entire life but golfing with his buddies was his special passion. He graduated from Jordan High School in Durham, and Methodist University in Fayetteville where he received his B.A. in Business Administration. He enjoyed traveling with his family and many wonderful memories were made. He was a member of Seaside United Methodist Church in Sunset Beach, NC, where he and his wife also served in the greeter ministry.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 17th at 1:00pm at Seaside United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gene Cobb and Rev. Derik Davis will be officiating. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior at the church.
