Jeannette Irene Dovel Lucas, of Shenandoah, 89, passed away on May 26, 2019, at Life Care Center in New Market.

Jeannette was born on July 19, 1929 in Stanley and was the daughter of the late Ernest K. and Cora Florence Lowery Dovel.

She attended Stanley High School and worked at Rockingham Poultry at Alma prior to retirement.

On March 1, 1947 she married Clinton O. Lucas, Sr., who preceded her in death on July 8, 1979.

She is survived by five children, Faye E. Owens, Clinton O. Lucas, Jr. (Susan), Robert F. Lucas (Annie), Joyce G. Austin (Andy), and Ernest L. Lucas (Sue) all of Shenandoah; 14 grandchildren, Michael and Rob Owens, Kevin Lam, Craig Lucas, Monica Brewer, Angela and Scott Lucas, Andrea Wheeler, Laura Turner, Little Ernie and Eric Lucas, Michelle Mines, Wendy Williams, and Karen Thompson; 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other extended family.

The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, at the Church of the Valley in Shenandoah on Wednesday, May 29, 2019.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 am, Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the church with Pastor Alfred Comer officiating. Burial will follow at Leake’s Chapel Cemetery, near Stanley.

The family would like to thank everyone for their many acts of kindness and especially the staff of Life Care Center in New Market.

So sorry for your loss...you all are in my thoughts and prayers...she was a kind and loving aunt...she made a lot of my childhood memories....Thanksgiving at her home butchering and the huge meal...loved her rice pudding..and camping at the river...love and God bless❤

She was a kind, loving aunt. I remember camping and swimming in the river across from her house when I was little. She was a blessing to keep my first born when I went back to work. She was a wonderful godly woman. I know she is rejoicing in heaven with all her sisters and brothers.

I knew her at the church of the valley when I attended ,she was known as Mrs Lucas .My prayers for all the family.
