Obituary of Mildred "Millie" Nelson Cubbage
Mildred “Millie” Nelson Cubbage, 85, a resident of Shenandoah, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2013 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. She was born on September 1, 1927 in Circleville, WV, and was the daughter of the late Elmer Clarence and Sylvia Alice Judy Nelson. Millie was a clerical typist with the FBI for 12 years before marrying and moving to the valley. She shared her husband’s love for the land, as a farmer’s wife. She was known as a soft spoken woman who loved the Lord and was a devoted wife, mother, and friend to all. In her desire to teach as she once had in the hills of West Virginia, she became a substitute teacher in the Page County Public School system for 13 years. As her husband’s disease progressed, she became his devoted full-time caregiver. Her legacy includes never knowing a stranger, always having a smile, and her delicious chocolate cake. She was a member of the Mt. Lebanon C.C.C.C. On December 30, 1960, she married Maurice Allen Cubbage who preceded her in death on March 9, 2003. Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Jimmy, Johnnie and Raymond Nelson. She is survived by her children, Allen Cubbage and wife, Vicki, of Oologah, OK, Barbara Roberts and husband, Mark, of Elkton, Dennis Cubbage and wife, Linda, of Elkton, Sharon Printz and husband, Chuck, of Shenandoah, and Jeffrey Cubbage and wife, Debbie, of Elkton; ten grandchildren, Will Cubbage of Pawhuska, OK, Lee Roberts of Harrisonburg, Heather Roberts of Shenandoah, Rebecca Comer of Elkton, Cathy Duncan of Stanley, Michelle Comer of Shenandoah, Tyler and Trask Printz of Stanley, Brad Cubbage and Amanda Hammer both of Elkton; eight great-grandchildren, William Cubbage, Grace and Avery Roberts, Dylan Banach, Nicholas Duncan, Vivienne Printz, Kyler Cubbage and Trapper Hammer; special friends, Jack and Margaret Supples of Shenandoah and Tim, Tammy Wood and family of Elkton; and her church family and pastor. The family will receive friends 6-8:00 PM, Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Mt. Lebanon C. C. C. C. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, February 22, at the church with Rev. Jim Martin, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. The family would like to express their special thanks to her friends and “family” at Journeys Crossing for their special care given to their mother.
