David Anthony McCarthy, born August 29, 1973, in Louisville, Kentucky, was a man whose love for his family was bigger than anything else in this world. He leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, hard work, stubborn determination, and countless unforgettable stories that will be shared for generations.
David was never one to hold back an opinion — if he thought it, you heard it. He was strong-willed, outspoken, and fiercely protective of the people he loved. Beneath that tough exterior was a man with an enormous heart, someone who would move heaven and earth for his family. He worked tirelessly to build the life he believed they deserved, always putting their needs before his own. As his daughter Sarah shared, he “did everything he could to build the life he thought we deserved,” and there was never a doubt how deeply he loved his family.
Some of the best memories were made outdoors, especially spending time shooting with family — days filled with laughter, storytelling, and the kind of bonding only he could turn into an all-day event. At home, his loyal pups kept life interesting: Jackson, with their classic love-hate relationship, and Scout — the “little terrorist” who, in David’s eyes, could do absolutely no wrong.
David was preceded in death by his father, Ronald J. McCarthy Jr.; Grandma McCarthy; and his mother-in-law, Linda.
He is survived by his loving mother, Sheila McCarthy (Robert Waters); his siblings, Ronald McCarthy (Geri McCarthy), Keith McCarthy, and Kathy McCarthy; his devoted wife, Lisa McCarthy; his daughters, Britney McCarthy and her partner Lyle, and Sarah McCarthy and her partner Tristan; his grandpup, Sam along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who loved him deeply.
David will be remembered for his grit, his humor, his unwavering devotion, and the way he showed love through action every single day. His presence was larger than life, his love was constant, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be at 6pm on Monday, February 2, 2026, in the chapel of Hardy-Close Funeral Home, 285 S. Buckman Street in Shepherdsville. Family and friends may pay their respects from 2 pm till the time of service at 6pm.
