Glenn Campbell, exactly 85 years old, died on July 18, 2021. Born stubborn and determined at only 3lbs--Glenn was the definition of big things come in small packages. He was never expected to live more than a few days, so his contrary spirit had to fight hard from day one. While his shiny hard head was difficult to contend with at times, it led to a man who fought hard for those he loved and provided a life filled with memories worth more than any amount of money could buy. Glenn and Joyce never had much but they always had more than they could dream. They spent years camping (with family and friends), square dancing (with family and friends),
playing cards (with family and friends), road tripping in a station wagon (with family and friends) and teaching us all how to live, love and serve each other well. They filled their days with laughter, fun and all the things we hang on our walls and dream for in our own lives. They actually did them. Some saw Glenn from a distance as a tough man with a hard exterior but if you took more than 1 minute to have a conversation you soon knew he was a teddy bear with an especially soft spot for his family. Once in the family, always in the family wasn’t just something he said, it was something he lived. Years of opening his home to everyone from strangers to his grandkids and sharing stories over his leather working bar while kids spun for hours on those famous barstools was just who he was. He never questioned it. It just was exactly who he was. Glenn taught us all more than we could articulate. He gave us the best biscuits, red-eye gravy, belts, key chains, wallets, Campbell Laws, golf cart rides, surprise scares, and a big laugh. But the memories and stories we can tell for years to come are the best gifts he gave us. We are left here with sad hearts, but the joy of memories, stories that we will always share, the hope of heaven and the thought of him fishing with friends and dancing with Joyce bring big smiles to our faces
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Joyce Campbell, and his parents, Marshall and Marie Campbell. He is survived by his sister Marcia Hawks, five children Mike Campbell,(Debra), Connie Hubbard (Doug), Vic Campbell (Dianna), Kim Boggs (Dean), Tonya Taylor (Rick), son-in-law Billy Montgomery (Denna) and 12 Grandchildren Sarah Nolan (Jack), David Campbell (April), Daniel Campbell, Brian Hubbard (Raquel), Eric Hubbard (Elizabeth), Michael Campbell (Jessica), Jason Campbell (Crystal), Andrew Montgomery (Alex), Travis Montgomery, Ross Montgomery (Sarah), Nichole Fitzner (Michael), Sean Taylor (Christina), and 19 great grandchildren. Glenn’s first job out of duPont Manual High School was at Davis Donuts. He later worked at Brown & Williamson for 18 years. He then changed careers and went to work for a startup called Purolator Courier. It became Emery Worldwide and still later Consolidated Freight. Glenn never looked for a job. He was always recruited because of his reputation. He retired in 1994. He was a member of Summitt Hills Baptist Church in Pioneer Village. Glenn was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, brother-in-law and friend! He was always
willing to lend a hand or come to your rescue.
