

Mr. Pettit was born in South Bend, Indiana and graduated from Ferris State College in Big Rapids, MI.
After moving to Kentucky he worked for D.M.L.O for 21 years as a Public Accountant. Mr. Pettit has been a member of several organizations, has held many positions and received many awards including, the International and Highlands Lions Club for 27 years, the Past District Governor for District 43N (2006-2007), The Melvin Jones Award, the International President Award for In a World of Service (2012-2013), The Presidential Award and the Past District Governor Award. He was a member of the Knights of the Blind and volunteered for the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation for 5 plus years. Mr. Pettit was the first to receive the highest award; the KLEF President's Award in memory of PID Henry and PDG Linda Smith (2010-2011). He has also received the Finis E. Davis Fellow Award for dedicated Humanitarian Services from the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation (2014-2015). Mr. Pettit volunteered for 17 years at Camp Cresendo in Lebanon Junction, Kentucky and Black Acres Conservatory in J-town for over five years where he helped with lawn and farming maintenance. Mr. Pettit also volunteered at the Kentucky State Fair for 17 years in the Lions Eye screening booth.
Among those who preceded him in death include his parents, Maurice and Dorothy Pettit; mother of his children, Kathy Pettit; grandson, Mark Gallagher.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife and best friend, Katherine "Kitty"; children, James (Brenda), Suzanne (Phillip), Mary, Robert (Rebecca); Kitty's children, Robin (Raymond), Nannette (Danny), Sheri (Stephen) and Julie; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and sister, Margaret Blackburn (Marty) from California.
Funeral service will be held 10:00 am Wednesday in the chapel of Schoppenhorst Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy at Brooks Rd.; use John Harper entrance) with entombment in Resthaven Memorial Park. Friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Schoppenhorst.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the KLEF to help support the Cornea Implant Project, Lions Camp Cresendo or Black Acres Conservatory or Hosparus.
