James Webster “Dink” Samples, age 85 of Louisville, returned home to his Heavenly Father on Saturday, February 28th, 2026. He was born on Sunday May 12th, 1940, to the late Ernest Samples and Anna Mae (Brown) Samples.
He retired from Naval Ordinance of Louisville where he worked 35 years as a Shipboard Gunsmith/Mechanic. He loved his job and was proud of the work he did for the Navy. He enjoyed working on anything that had moving parts and tinkering in his garage. If it had mechanical parts, he was always able to fix it.
James was a loving father and a friend to anyone he met. He could talk about guns and cars for hours.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Britt Samples (Laura), Nicole Myers, and Jacob Samples; two grandchildren, Chase Samples and Macey Samples; his siblings Curtis Samples and Joanne Baker; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
The family of Mr. Samples have entrusted Hardy-Close Funeral Home of Shepherdsville with cremation services.
