Jeanette Helen Barnett

Barnett, Jeanette Helen, 89, passed from this life on September 19, 2017 at her daughter’s home surrounded by family. She was born on September 11, 1928 and was the eldest daughter of Fred Henry and Helen Roseberry Powers. She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Jeanette is the widow of Luther C. Barnett, Sr.; her children, Luther Jr. (Jan), Donald (Pam), Laura Belew (Glenn), David (Diane), William (Teri), Joseph (Teresa), John (Cindy), Steve, and Gerald (Monica); 25 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren; and a whole host of other family and friends. In addition to being a loving and supportive mother to 9 children, she was a dedicated member of Franklin Street Church for 60 years.she worked as a community organizer for the Community Action Commission (War on Poverty). Later she was a social worker for Wesley Community House in the Butchertown area. Funeral service will be conducted at 12:00am on Monday, September 25, 2017 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Highway at Brooks Road) with entombment to follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects on Sunday, September 24, 2017, from 2:00 to 8:00pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hosparus, Franklin Street Church, or the Salvation Army.
