

Mr. Melvin Harmon, age 86, of Okolona, returned to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 24, 2018. Mr. Harmon was born in Otisco Indiana to the late Mary Alieen Kahl on September 20, 1931. He was a Naval veteran, retired from General Electric after 38 years and an active member of the local 761. Mr. Harmon loved people. He was the most giving, loving, most generous person you would ever meet. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Mr. Harmon loved helping people in need; it didn’t even matter if he knew them. Most of all, he was a family man who loved his family with his whole being. He was a dad to all, even when he did not have to be. Mr. Harmon was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and he will be dearly missed.
Among those who preceded him in death include his children. David Harmon, Kenneth Hill, and Patty Puleo; his great granddaughter, Kali Rae Carson; 2 brothers, Charles and Don Kahl; and 2 sisters, Marge McMillian and Doris Carlisle; and his son-in-law, Ricky Terrill.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 42 years, Betty Harmon; daughters, Terri Hill and Kim Hill (Buddy); daughter-in-law, Diane Harmon; grandchildren, Melissa Carson (Kelly), Ryan Madden (Andrea), Quentin Hill (Faith), and Megan and Kayla Hall; great grandchildren, Dylan Carson, Kaden Carson, Eleanor Madden, Samantha Carson, and Griffon Barajaf-Brock; brothers, George Kahl and Maurice Kahl (Kay); numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
A Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 29, 2018, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with burial Hebron Cemetery to follow. Friends may pay their respects on Sunday from 2:00 until 8:00 pm and on Monday from 12:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
