Funeral Mass is under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner, Texas and will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, Texas with Father Bryan Heyer officiating. A Rosary will be recited at the church prior to the Mass at 12:30. Interment will follow at Shiner City Cemetery in Shiner, Texas. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Buffington Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm.
Vernita was born onNovember 3, 1937 in Shiner, Texas. She was the daughter of Victor and Adela (Vana) Technik. She graduated from the Shiner Saint Ludmila Academy in 1956. She received her Licensed Vocational Nurse training in Yoakum and licensed in 1957 to nurse in Yoakum Huth Memorial Hospital. She married Clarence Blume of Shiner on Oct.17, 1959, at Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, Texas. They had 2 sons and 2 daughters: Rachel Romine and her husband, Ed of Rio Medina, Texas, Bradley Blume and his wife, Denise of Houston, Texas, Theresa Schnitzler and her husband, Guy of Double Oak, Texas, and Larry Blume and his wife DuFresne of Houston, Texas. Vernita loved her family and was a fulltime mother. She was always involved as a volunteer at area hospitals for 35 years and in church organizations before and after her retirement in 2000. Vernita enjoyed gardening, reading and travel. Clarence, after working 35 years at the Johnson Space Center and living in League City, TX. , and Vernita moved back to their hometown of Shiner in 2000.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence, 4 children, 5 grandchildren, and her only brother William Technik and his wife, Jeanette of Gonzales.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Blume will be; Guy Schnitzler, Ed Romine, John Brock, Ryan Parker, Chad Nelson and David Nitsch, Jr.
