Barnette Cloud Sr. was born in Pitkin, Louisiana on October 19, 1923 to James and Octavia Cloud. He worked on his father’s farm until he joined the United States Air Force at the age of 16 and served overseas as a mechanic during World War II. He and his wife, Willie Lee Thompson, raised their four children in Oakdale, Louisiana before he relocated to Dallas, Texas, where he was remarried to Louella Bailey Cloud and was a long-time employee at Dal-tile.
Mr. Cloud loved gadgets and was always busy crafting new inventions. He was also gifted with building and woodworking, and retired to the lakeside home he built in Edgewood, Texas before spending his final years close to his brothers in Stonewall, Louisiana. He was an avid reader and armchair traveler, who enjoyed learning of other cultures and exotic places.
Mr. Cloud is survived by his sister, Nata Cloud of Natchitoches, Louisiana, his daughter, Elizabeth Cloud Finklea of Stonewall, his son, Jonathan Cloud (Sophia), son-in-law, Paul Monk, daughter-in-law, Nona McCoy Cloud, his grandchildren, Annette, Brian, Brittany, Caleb, Sarah, Justin, Charles, Heather, Ben, Matt, James, Amy and Paula, 24 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and many generous friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louella Bailey Cloud, son, Barnette Cloud Jr., daughter, Deborah Cloud Monk, grandson, Timothy Jonathan Cloud, granddaughter, Rachel Lynn Sahr, his parents and his three brothers, Bernice, Curley and Truman Cloud.
Arrangements and a private burial are at Centuries Memorial Park in Shreveport.
