Gene was born on February 15, 1932 in Mansfield, LA to James and Ruth Brownfield. He was married to his High School sweetheart, Betty Lois Smith, for 63 years until her death in 2013. Upon graduating from high school, he earned a degree from Louisiana Business College. He then worked in the banking industry for a few years and then moved to Wilson, Oklahoma where he worked for an oil and gas company. He and Betty moved to Shreveport in 1956 where they became active and faithful members of Summer Grove Baptist Church throughout their lives. After working for 23 years for Shreveport Industrial Uniform Service, he founded and owned VIP Uniform Services and Ruston Uniform Services which
served all of north Louisiana for 35 years.
He was also an avid sportsman and loved playing golf, fishing, hunting, boating, and skiing.
Gene was an outgoing people person and always enjoyed meeting and talking to everyone he
encountered in his work and activities.
He was preceded in his death by his wife, Betty, his parents, brothers, Jimmy Brownfield and
Ted Brownfield, and his grandchildren, Devin Brownfield and Chase Brownfield. He is survived
by his children, Beverly Brownfield Huddleston, Carol Brownfield Marler and husband, Scott,
Michael Brownfield, Brent Brownfield, Chad Brownfield and 11 grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Gene will be on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at 2 pm at Century Funeral
Home. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 15 from 5-7 pm.
Pallbearers for the service are Ethan Marler, Brandon Brownfield, Anna Brownfield, Caitlin
Brownfield, Zoe Brownfield, Taylor Brownfield, Ford Owen and Hunter Breedlove.
