With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Charles "Chuck" Patterson, who departed this world on June 3, 2025, at the age of 94, just days shy of his 95th birthday. Chuck's warm smile and gentle spirit touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Born in New Boston, Ohio, on June 14, 1930, Chuck honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. His service led him to Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana. It was there, at the historic Louisiana Hayride, that he first met Mary Ann, beginning a love story that would span more than 50 years. Their devotion was a testament to enduring love, especially Chuck's steadfast commitment as he tenderly cared for Mary Ann through her battle with dementia until her passing in 2022.
Chuck was a master of his craft, taking immense pride in his work as a sausage maker for companies including Armor and Down Home Sausage. However, it was in nature where his soul truly found peace. An avid bow hunter and passionate fisherman, Chuck found his greatest joy in life's simple pleasures—particularly drift fishing for catfish on Cross Lake, a beloved pastime he enjoyed until just weeks before his final journey home.
Chuck possessed a remarkable gift for friendship, with a rare ability to turn strangers into friends with just a conversation. His genuine interest in others and warm, welcoming nature made everyone feel like family. His laugh was infectious, his stories captivating, and his love for life contagious.
Chuck was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Mary Ann Patterson; his parents Chester and Goldie Patterson; his siblings Phyllis and husband Jake Snodgrass, James and wife Peggy Patterson, Clarence and wife Martha Patterson; his sister-in-law Linda Roppolo; and his daughter-in-law Beth B. Patterson.
He is survived by his brother Billy Joe and Joann Patterson; his brother-in-law Tony Roppolo; his three sons, whom he loved and admired dearly: Charles Jr. (Chuck), David and wife Pamela, and Wayne and wife Beth; six beloved grandchildren: Robyn Harberger, Chad E. Patterson, Lauren Martin, Allison Ward, Brooke Patterson, and Trisha Patterson; and several great-grandchildren. Among them was his "partner in crime," Everett Leon Patterson, with whom he shared a deep and undeniable bond. Upon learning of his great-grandfather’s passing, Everett sat silently for a moment before asking, "Who is going to make sure I have biscuits and brownies now?"
Serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Vanni, David Posey, Chad E. Patterson, Tommy Cobbs, Richard Simmons, and Mark Pohl. Steve Pohl will serve as honorary pallbearer; all were men who held a special place in Chuck's heart.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate doctors and staff at St. Joseph Carpenter House, whose gentle care and guidance provided comfort during Chuck's final days.
Chuck's departure leaves an empty space in our hearts, but his legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him. He taught us the value of a good fishing story, the importance of family, and the power of a friendly smile. Though he has cast his line into heavenly waters, his spirit will forever ripple through the lives of those he touched.
Memorial services will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home & Park, Shreveport on Friday, June 6, 2025. Visitation begins at noon followed by a service at 1:00 pm.
