Obituary of Dixie Attaway
Dixie Hayes McDonald Attaway was born in Junction City, Arkansas to the late Welcome W. Hayes and Mattie Mae Hayes on January 27, 1937. Dixie was a majorette and played basketball for Junction City High. She had a long career in retail sales with Selber Bros. and then with Dillards until her retirement in 2008. Dixie was a huge Dallas Cowboy fan but she loved all sports. She enjoyed dancing especially the Jitterbug, which was her favorite. She was known to be a "spitfire" or "firecracker". Dixie was devoted to her family and friends. She passed from this life at the age of 85 on Saturday, January 21, 2023. She is now reunited with her husband, Milton Attaway and her parents. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Donna McDonald of Shreveport, LA, her son, Jerry McDonald of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and her grandson, Joseph "Trey" Vallot, III of Shreveport, LA. A visitation for Dixie will be held Friday, January 27, 2023 from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. A celebration of life at graveside will occur Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Summerfield Cemetery, Summerfield, LA, where she will be laid to rest. Her son, Jerry will be officiating the services. Music will be provided by long-time friend, Joan Nerrettig. Honoring her as pallbearers are Michael Grant, C. Dustin Gibbs, Lance Douglas, J.D. Jasso, Andy Ryan, Joseph Vallot, Jr. and her grandson, Joseph "Trey" Vallot, III. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staffs at Riverview Care Center, St. Joseph Hospice and Willis-Knighton Pierremont for their care. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dixie's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
