Services celebrating the life of George William “Mac” McCalman, 82, will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home.
George was born in Shreveport, La, to Mary and Grady McCalman on October 20, 1933. He was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 24, 2016 after a courageous month long illness.
He retired as a Gunnery Sergeant after serving 20 years in the US Marine Corps, including service in the Korean conflict and in Vietnam. He served from 1951-1971. After retiring, he enjoyed many years in Plain Dealing, La, and remained active in the United Methodist Church of Plain Dealing until the end.
Preceding him in death are his parents, brother, Durwood McCalman, sister, Evelyn "Jenny" Hodge, and brother, Glenn McCalman.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Jeanette McCalman. His life will be fondly remembered by his children, son, Richard Lewis, daughter, Rachel Brown, daughter, Rebecca Fisher and husband David, and daughter Heather McCalman, grandchildren, Caleb Howe, Jamie Fisher, and Benjamin and Kyle Cunningham, and many great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his siblings, Ellene Graham, Robert McCalman and wife Jannie, Loyce Bankard and husband Huey, Franklin McCalman, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Benjamin and Kyle Cunningham, David Fisher, Flynn and Robin Bankard, and Jason McCalman.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 156, Plain Dealing, LA, 71064.
