

Ila Elene Betterton, 92, dear mother, sister and friend, passed away in Baton Rouge, on January 19, 2018. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 23, from 11:30 to 1:00 prior to the service at Centuries Memorial in Shreveport. A celebration of her life will be at 1:00 with the Rev. James Hill, former pastor of Blanchard Baptist Church, officiating with burial to follow.
Ila was born in Louann, Arkansas to the late Horace and Lela Jones and grew up in Miller County Arkansas. She graduated from Fouke High School and received a teaching degree from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and her Masters of Education in Library Science from East Texas State University in Commerce. Mrs. Betterton was a retired educator from Caddo Parish Schools and with her husband Burlon owned Betterton’s Grocery Store in Blanchard for 30 years. She is greatly loved and will be missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter Cindy Elliott and husband Jim, of Baton Rouge; one sister Pat Spigener and husband Gordon of Shreveport; and three nieces Debbie Thompson and husband Paul of Whitehouse, Texas, Denise Cunov and husband Kyle of San Antonio, Texas, and Cara Holloway of Shreveport; and a special cousin Margie Parker of Shreveport. Preceded in death by her parents Horace and Lela Jones; husband, Burlon Betterton; second husband, Charles Wyatt; sister, Martha Ann Douglass; and nephew, Rod Spigener.
