Mr. James Airial Mathews

Funeral Services celebrating the life of James Airial Mathews, 85, of Shreveport, LA, will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, Shreveport, LA. Mr. Mathews son, Father Ron Mathews of Amarillo, TX will officiate. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 17, 2010 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Christian Wake service will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Mr. Mathews was born in Glenmora, LA on February 17, 1925 to Julius and Dona Mathews. As a young boy, James was a salesman for the Shreveport Times in Alexandria, LA. Mr. Mathews served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Mathews became a Salesman for Sears and worked there for 36 years.

Preceding Mr. Mathews in passing are his wife of 50 years Betty Mathews, his parents, 2 sisters and one brother.

Left to cherish beautiful memories of James are his children; Father Ron Mathews, Richard Mathews and wife Vickie, Michael Mathews, Mark Mathews and Leesa Jean Burgess and husband Neil D, one brother, Bobby Mathews and wife Barbara, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Honoring Mr. Mathews as active and honorary pallbearers will be: Richard Mathews, Paul Mathews, Danny Mathews, Steven Shiflett, Kevin Phillips, Hayden Mathews, Danny Burgess, Jimmy Burgess and Joey Burgess.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN-38105
