She graduated from Fair Park High School and began her career as an accountant for J.B. Beaird Company. As a devoted employee, she spent 45 years with the company and its successors.
Jean was a member of First Methodist Church, Shreveport, LA. She was a strong Christian and loved sharing her faith with others. Family and friends were her most treasured blessings. She was happiest when she could help or encourage others.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Mary Jean Roddey; grandson, Allen M. (Cami) Sykes of St. Augustine, Florida; great granddaughter, Mallorie B. Sykes of Princeton, Texas; step-grandchildren, Lynne (John) Weidig of The Woodlands, Texas, and John B. Roddey III of Vivian, LA; step-great grandchildren, John Michael Weidig of Austin, Texas, Joshua Weidig of Austin, Texas, and Amy Roddey of Deer Park, Texas.
Jean passed away on March 29, 2025 at the age of 94. She is now reunited with her first husband, Allen W. Perkins (1962); second husband, Oscar Eugene Whitaker (2009) and her parents, who preceded her in death.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at 10:00 am at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108, followed by a celebration of life service starting at 11:00 am. Officiating the service will be Reverend Doctor Ashley Goad and Reverend Kathy Wafer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Methodist Church located at 500 Common St, Shreveport, LA 71101, and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
