Joan Michel Holland, age 86, of Shreveport, Louisiana went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. She left us peacefully in her home where she lived for 60 years. She was born June 23, 1935 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Ulger Joseph Michel and Irma Glockner Michel.
Joan was employed with Willis-Knighton Health Care System for over 30 years before retiring. She served as the Executive Secretary to the Director of Willis-Knighton Nursing Administration; was known by all and highly respected. She was the "go-to" lady and would help anyone that had a question. Joan was a great friend and treasured part of Willis-Knighton.
Joan was the rock of her family, teaching them love and faith. She set the example to turn to Christ and each other to see them through their journey on this earth. She was an active member with many roles in her church; Christ Lutheran. Joan and her husband, Robert, were an exceptional model of what love and devotion should be. They both enjoyed going to Barnes & Noble daily, spending time with the employees and their friends there. They loved dancing, traveling and spending time with their family most of all. Robert and Joan went everywhere together for 66 wonderful years until Bob was called home in 2019. She is now reunited with him, dancing once again, in Heaven.
She is also preceded in death by her parents, Ulger and Irma Michel; brother, Ulger Joseph "Mike" Michel Jr.; and her grandson, Christopher Michael Holland.
Left to cherish her memory are children, Kirk E. Holland and wife Kathy; Michael J. Holland and wife Terri; Robin H. Gras and husband Gary; and Laura H. Bowman and husband Clint; her grandchildren, who affectionately called her Grammy, Stefanie Lincoln and husband Dustin, Kimberly Clark and husband Daniel, Kaley Booth and husband Shelton, Matthew Holland and wife Krisha, Madison Gilliam and husband Brett, Taryn Constable and Joshua Cooley; eight great grandchildren and numerous extended family members and friends.
A visitation for Joan will be held Friday, October 15, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. A Celebration of Life will occur Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Christ Lutheran Church, 290 Idema, Shreveport, Louisiana 71106. Officiating the services will be Pastor Perry Culver. Joan will be laid to rest in Centuries Memorial Park, 8801 Mansfield Rd, Shreveport, LA. Serving as pallbearers are Matthew Holland, Joshua Cooley, Daniel Clark, Colton Steadman, Brett Gilliam, Tracey Paul Constable, and Shelton Booth. Honorary pallbearers will be Mack McKinley and Philip Feibel.
The family would like to say thank you to Joan's caregivers, Pat, Kathy, Marinda, Winifred and Leticia, as well as her Willis Knighton Hospice Nurse Christy. Each of these ladies lovingly shared their hearts with Joan over the course of her last few years.
